Florida Sues Netflix Over Kids Data. The Real Charge Is a Broken Privacy Brand.

Florida says Netflix tracked kids after promising privacy. The lawsuit may stall in court, but the Netflix privacy brand already took the hit.

For most of its life, Netflix sold one thing besides shows. It sold the feeling of not being watched. You paid a monthly fee, and in return, nobody tried to sell you anything. On September 9, 2026, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed suit claiming that feeling was a lie.

The 66-page complaint lands in state court in St. Johns County. It accuses Netflix of tracking children on profiles the company marketed as safe. After that, the state says, Netflix turned years of viewing data into an ad business. Netflix denies all of it.
